December Mexico Action
When the harsh winters of North America come strolling through with ferocity, it is often Mexico that is the refuge for great offshore action. Area's like Cabo and Puerto Vallarta along the Pacific coast give anglers an ideal place to resort to when their big-game thirst remain strong in the off-season. Water temps do cool off but not to the degree of it's neighboring U.S. waters. In return, the cool nutrient rich waters serves as an oasis for many pelagics ranging from Tuna to Billfish.
Unlike its eastern coast counter part - Cancun, the waters off Puerto Vallarta and nearby islands host some of the largest Yellowfin Tuna on the planet. A true mythic monster exceeding 400lbs was recently caught and is a current contendar for the I.G.F.A. All-Tackle World Record. This catch was not just a rare 'fluke', many Yellowfin in excess of 300lbs are often encountered if the conditions are right.
There are many Captains and anglers who live for the Tuna bite. Among them is the very well known and respectable Capt. Josh Temple. Josh and his crews have pursued these hydrodynamic beasts for years and has altered technique and skill countless times trying to stay one step ahead of the game.

Winter Species
Among the Tuna and occasional Marlin bite, this time of year provides exceptional Wahoo activity. Wahoo can be super thick and super hungry. Around some islands and various structure you can literally fill you boat with these striped toothy speedsters. While not obtaining the shear size as their pelagic buddies the tuna and marlin, they do put on a very resepectable fight with big bruisers often smoking reels putting light and medium tackle to the test. On some winter days, it may even be possible to nail Marlin, Tuna, and Wahoo all on the same trip.
Dorado are also present and on occasion you may hook into a nice Bull Dolphin while trolling for Marlin and Tuna. All of these great species make Mexico a fantastic and nearby destination to get your lines wet during the cold winter months.

Quick December Report By Capt. Josh Temple
Just finished up two great days of fishing with Herk and Sue on the 54 Viking, same story as last time down here - TUNAS FOR MILES AND MILES AND MILES. Running around like crazy today to get the Maximo fueled and ready for the next week with the Casas', we head out for a 2 day overnight trip in the morning. I'll get some pics up tonight, the fishing is really excellent out there and all of the fish are averaging 150#'s with some bigger ones out there. Live bait is the key, they don't want the plastic right now.
