E verglades... Going Deep
When water temperatures drop, timing quickly becomes the most important component to success in the Park.  The cold will push fish into deeper water where they depend on the tide to flush food their way.  Keeping this in mind, you can pinpoint ambush points in deeper creek mouths or channels and plan to be there when the water starts to flow in the right direction.  However, the window of opportunity may be very small... miss the tide by 15 minutes and you could miss the entire bite.  To complicate matters more, other factors like wind direction may slow or speed up the tide at any given time.  I am regularly making adjustments to ensure we are in the right place at the right time.  You can do the same by knowing the day's tide tables and constantly monitoring wind direction & water movement.  Plan the day right and be rewarded!

La Vida Loca
I was happy to receive an Email not too long ago from a friend and old client, Ricky Martin (not the pop star... the Miami Attorney).  It had been nearly two years since our last trip and he was overdue for another Everglades Adventure.  Only this time he would have to work for it... no 21' speed rocket or live pilchards to pitch.  Moving at a modest 31 mph, we made our way to the coast with 1/4 ounce jigs tied on our lines and high hopes.  In unison with the tide, we hit the spots just right. Like part of a script, they casted their jigs and the fish bit... when the time came, we changed spots and the script repeated.  They caught Redfish, Black Drum, Snook and Trout... slamming early and often.  What a day and what a welcome back!
