08.11 - A Pictorial of Madness

Posted by on Jul 28, 2011 under

There are special times when Anglers and/or Captains may be in the right place at the right time to witness an amazing spectacle on the water. A prime example is when Pelagic Pro Team's Capt. Josh Temple and crew were out of Puerto Vallarta and witnessed non-stop surface action from Yellowfin Tuna as they crushed flyingfish and ballyhoo.

Summertime here off the coast of Louisiana represents my favorite time of year for fishing. The run down the Mississippi River is warm, the seas are near flat almost every day, and there’s much more to catch than just tuna and wahoo.

As Tropical Storm Arlene was barreling down on Mexico, the extended surf forecast was looking ultra primo for the Texas coast. Could this be the first true mega weather window since last year??? I think soooooo.

07.11 - Hammer Time in South Florida

Posted by Rory on Jul 01, 2011 under

South Florida, FL
John and I have been out quite a bit the last month searching for the monster that got the best of us in May. But lately the bite has been extremely slow, between the two of us averaging only 1 to 2 runs per trip.

Tofino, British Columbia, Canada
Canada has its fair share of marine gems. Amongst those are the great fruitful waters off Tofino, in British Columbia. It is also home of Pelagic's Capt Josh Temple who spends many summer days sifting through the superb Salmon and Halibut fishery.

Outer Banks, NC
Over the past few weeks, we have had some storms roll through that got me thinking about on the water preparation and safety in the event of a storm. Lightning is nothing to laugh at but there are many more issues that could arise from being caught on the water in the unfortunate case of a storm.

Florida, California, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic
The Waterman's Journal proud to present a special extended edition of 'Short Bites '.  We get many submissions from men, women, and children from all around the world and are happy to share as much as we can back with the readers.

South Atlantic Coast
Inshore anglers along the southern United States have a great appreciation for the Speckled Trout. The Speckled Trout are also known as the Spotted SeaTrout, or Spotted Weakfish.

06.11 - Action in Venice!

Venice, LA
Ahh…summertime. No fog, no wind, glass-calm seas here in the Gulf of Mexico, and epic fishing.

06.11 - Texas Kayaking Report

Padre Island, TX
It has indeed been a tough year in the Gulf of Mexico. With virtually no multiple-day window since late last year, fishing along the Texas coast has been very frustrating.

06.11 - Panama It Is!!!!

Posted by Rory on May 28, 2011 under

Panama
It's hard to imagine that after all of the time I have spent chasing big fish around this side of the Pacific, that after all of the countless, unbelievable moments we have borne witness to during this time, that I can still find magic and excitement in each and every day of fishing after all of these years.

Kona, HI
The 2011 season is shaping up to be a banner year in Kona, Hawaii. Typical winter catches in Kona consist of Striped Marlin, Mahi Mahi, and the occasional Blue Marlin. This winter has already produced more than a few massive blue Marlin, with many more big ones being seen as well.

06.11 - Searching for SNOOK

Posted by Rory on May 01, 2011 under

With several different species of Snook inhabiting our oceans, it is the Common Snook which dominates the ecosystem of the Florida shallows.

The Florida Keys are an archipelago of 4500 islands in the southeast United States. They begin at the southeastern tip of the Florida peninsula , about 15 miles south of Miami , and extend in a slight arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas.

With Summer just around the corner, it will not be long and anglers of all types will be duking it out on the water under the hot summer days.

The wind was howling and we had to attend the Big Shell Beach Cleanup on Saturday morning at 6:00AM.  I phoned Oz and said we need to get some fishing in.  How about lets target some big drum in the ICW?  We need some Kayak Wars points.  I just know they have got to be out there.  He agreed and we planned to hit the water at sunset.  I had talked to Kevin “keager” earlier and we had set this up earlier in the day no matter what the wind was going to do.

05.11 - Snapper!!!

Posted by Rory on Apr 03, 2011 under

One of the most tasty and vastly offered reef fish in resturants and in homes is the Red Snapper . The Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) is a fish found in the Gulf of Mexico and the southeastern Atlantic coast of the United States.

After a spectacular trip to the Rev's last week on the Gladiator, Oren and I were skeptical that the next two weeks in PV would offer anything even remotely akin to the kind of action and big fish madness that we experienced during our last trip out to the islands. I...
